NEQJCC SUPPORTS SCHOOLS CHANCELLOR SEARCH PROCESS

July 17, 1995

Hon. Carol A. Gresser
President
NYC Board of Education
110 Livingston Street
Brooklyn, NY 11201

Dear Carol:

On behalf of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council [NEQJCC] , I write to express support for the criteria proposed by the NYC Board of Education concerning the search for a new Schools Chancellor.

An association of religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the NEQJCC covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village (north). Council projects include neighborhood development, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition. The Council combats anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination. A UJA/Federation beneficiary, he NEQJCC works closely with the Queens Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty and the Samuel Field/ Bay Terrace YM-YWHA.

The Council supports efforts to deliver and maintain quality public education. The availability of quality education is a major attraction for families in choosing one of the NEQJCC neighborhoods. Even those families who might send their children to a day school or a yeshiva recognize that good public schools help make a community strong. Thank you for considering our community's concerns.

Sincerely,

COREY B. BEARAK
President

c. Sharon Nadel, Executive Director, NEQJCC
