SHULMAN TO INSTALL BEARAK TO 3rd TERM AS NEQJCC PRES., JAN. 23; SERVICE AWARD TO LUPKIN; GIRGENTI TO KEYNOTE

 Corey B. Bearak of Bellerose, an attorney with experience in state and city government, will be installed to a third term as President of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council [NEQJCC] on Sunday morning, January 23, 1994.  The "Installation Breakfast" and awards reception, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at Bellerose Jewish Center, 254-06 Union Turnpike in Floral Park, features a Keynote Address by Governor Mario M. Cuomo's Director of Criminal Justice Richard H. Girgenti, Installation of Officers by Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, and an award to NEQJCC Executive Director Emeritus Anne Lupkin, a Bayside resident, for "Distinguished Service to the Northeast Queens Community".

In addition to Mr. Bearak, who serves as Counsel/ Chief of Staff to City Councilman Sheldon S. Leffler,  Borough President Shulman will install Joseph M. Varon as First Vice President, Al Levy as Second Vice President, Anne Kirsch as Third Vice President, Marcia Federman as Recording Secretary and Susan Fogel as Treasurer.  Mr. Varon chairs the Installation Committee which includes Helene Zaro, Milton Prane and Max Singer.

An association of religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the NEQJCC covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village (north).

Council projects include neighborhood development, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition. The Council combats anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination.  The NEQJCC also sponsors forums with major public figures, Jewish Cultural events, open discussions with local Rabbis and represents community concerns.

Upcoming Northeast Queens Jewish Community projects and events include a Community-Wide Safety Fair and the Council's Annual Legislative Breakfast.
A UJA/Federation agency, the NEQJCC works closely with the Queens Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York, the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Committee on Jewish Poverty and the Samuel Field/ Bay Terrace YM-YWHA.
