JEWISH COMMUNITY PRESSES MTA TO AVERT FARE HIKE

The Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council [NEQJCC] urges the MTA to hold the fare at $1.25, if not reduce it.

The entire community covered by our Council, an association of religious, education, fraternal and community organizations - Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen oaks, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, Oakland gardens and Queens VIllage (north) - is a two-fare zone.

We are working hard to maintain northeast Queens as a place in which to live and work.  People who choose northeast Queens often look at communities outside New York City in comparison.  The two-fare zone make our community compare less favorably to suburban communities whose transit opportunities are subsidized - unfairly - at a much higher level.

This must be reversed!  Work to end this inequity.  Reduce the fares.  End the two-fare zones.

Thank you.
