Northeast Queens will get an opportunity to socialize and foster respect for people of diverse backgrounds at teen social, sponsored by the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council, Saturday, April 20, 1996, announced NEQJCC President Corey Bearak. The social, starting after 8:00 p.m. and continuing until about 11:00 p.m. at the Middle School 158 Beacon School, 46-35 Oceania Street in Bayside. The free event, also sponsored by the Beacon Program, the Korean Flushing YWCA, N'areinu Hebrew High School and two youths groups, Mitnadvim and Junior Council, at the Samuel Field/Bay Terrace YM&YWHA, is part of the NEQJCC's ongoing efforts at coalition-building with newer groups who also call northeast Queens their home. An association of religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the NEQJCC covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village (north). Council projects include neighborhood development, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition. The Council combats anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination. The NEQJCC also sponsors forums with major public figures, Jewish Cultural events, open discussions with local Rabbis and represents community concerns. Upcoming events include a Community-Wide Safety Fair. A UJA/Federation agency, the NEQJCC works closely with the Queens Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York, the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty and the Samuel Field/ Bay Terrace YM-YWHA. -30-
