JEWISH WAR VETERANS HONOR NEQJCC'S CHAIR The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) honored the long-time chair of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council (NEQJCC) with a surprise presentation at the NEQJCC's last meeting, Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Samuel Field Y in Little Neck. NEQJCC Chair Corey Bearak was not expecting the presentation at the meeting where he was also re-nominated for another term (elections take place May 10). Under "Good & Welfare," Past State Commander Jason Kaatz, a fellow Bellerose resident, surprised his neighbor with the Queens County Council Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America Community Service Award. The JWV presented the award to Bearak "with respect and appreciation for your untiring efforts, continued dedication and commitment to the Jewish Community." Bearak became chair of the largest regional council in the New York metropolitan area in 1998 following seven terms as president. Under Bearak's leadership the Council implemented a Neighborhood Development Program including the design of the brochure You Can Have It All!, a Lay Leadership Committee, Jewish Continuity programs and the Harmony initiative with its Annual Pre-Passover and High Holiday Food, Toy and Coat Drives. Bearak will return the favor somewhat as he agreed to deliver the keynote address at the Queens County Council JWV 75th Annual Jubilee honoring County Commander David Rivkin and County President Petra Kaatz (See www.northeastqueensjewish.org/events for more information.)
